About Our Practice
Nickelsen Family Dental provides high-quality patient care offering a full range of services in a comfortable environment. Whether you are concerned about preventing dental problems in the future, in need of restorative treatment or interested in cosmetic dentistry, listening to your needs is our top priority.
Nickelsen Family Dental is under the the direction of Dr. Jon Nickelsen, who has been practicing dentistry for more than 13 years. He established Nickelsen Family Dental on the west side of Elgin where he was raised and where his father, Dr. Dale Nickelsen, practiced dentistry for more than 40 years.
He earned his bachelor of science degree in microbiology from Miami of Ohio and his doctor of dental surgery degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Dentistry.
Dr. Nickelsen volunteers his time to advance general, technical and scientific education in the field of dentistry. Currently serving as trustee for the Illinois State Dental Society, he also is past president of the Fox Valley Dental Society and maintains membership with the American Dental Association, Chicago Dental Society and Elgin Dental Study Club.
He has received numerous awards for his leadership in dentistry, including the American Student Dental Association Award of Excellence, the Omnicron Kappa Upsilon Research Award and the William J. Greek Memorial Leadership Award, which recognizes a new member of the Illinois State Dental Society who has demonstrated outstanding professional leadership.
Active in continuing his education and professional development, Dr. Nickelsen achieved certification as a Invisalign provider. His dedication to leadership and excellence allows him to provide quality care to his patients. He states, “I am committed to providing the highest-quality care and excellent personalized service to the community that has served both me and my family for so many years.”
Insurance FAQs
Do you accept my insurance? How much will they pay?
We currently accept all private insurance plans (plans that do not require you to select a dentist from a list or require our office to accept reduced fees for services). This means that we work with literally thousands of companies. Due to changes in policies, it is impossible to give you guaranteed quotes of their payments. We can estimate your portions based on past payment histories and general insurance coverage tables, but it is only an estimate. If you would like to know exact insurance benefits, we can file a "pre-treatment authorization" with your insurance company. This will delay treatment but will give you the exact out-of-pocket figures you may require.
I thought I paid my portion but I got a bill. Why?
We base the patient portion of your bill on our most current data but there are many factors that can affect this estimate. There may be a deductible (individual or family). Sometimes you may have seen a specialist for care, which uses up part of your annual benefit. Insurance companies do not notify us of changes to your benefits; they will only notify you. Please let us know of any of these changes.
Insurance did not pay – now what?
We submit your claims as a courtesy. If your insurance does not pay, then it is your responsibility to make payment in full for services performed for you. Insurance is a contract between you and the company. Our office is not part of that contract. Ultimately, you are responsible for all charges incurred in our office.
We welcome you to our family and look forward to helping you get the healthy, beautiful smile you have always wanted. If there is anything we can do to make your visits here more pleasant, please do not hesitate to ask us.
